Streetly tennis veterans to play under
Warwickshire banner September 22 – Streetly’s veterans are preparing to play under
the Warwickshire banner at next month’s UK County Championships. The club will provide four of the five-strong Under-60s team when they
begin their campaign against Essex, with Derek Bradshaw, Will Rogers, Mick
Webb and Geoff Cliff joined by London-based World Veterans Doubles
champion Keith Bland. They hope the event will be the latest step in a hugely successful summer
that has brought three titles at the National Veterans Grasscourts
Championships, held at Wimbledon. Ken Buswell added to his 30 previous National crowns by winning the
Men’s Over-75s doubles with his partner Jimmy Wood from Scotland, and in the
Men’s Over-60s doubles final Cliff and Webb beat former British Davis Cup
player John Paish and Jeremy Woods 6-1, 6-4. Along the way Cliff and Webb also beat fellow Streetly member, coach
Derek Bradshaw, in the semi-final and did not drop a set throughout the
tournament. Streetly now have one of the strongest veterans set-ups in the country
and are looking to continue their success at all levels. For details about playing tennis at Streetly, check the club’s website at
